Windpark Steinriegel (I & II)

Austria Alps

In October 2005, Windpark Steinriegel began operation with 10 wind turbines. In 2014, another 11 turbines of model Enercon E70 followed.

In 2012, a compensatory area for black grouse was already laid out in the framework of the wind farm extension. The goal of the compensation area is the protection (and expansion) of their current habitats.

Capercaillie habitat is most common around the Moschkogel and Pretul (in planning) wind turbines. Hunters report, however, that in 2009/2010 after the establishment of the farms, a capercaillie had settled in the immediate vicinity (600-700 meters) of a wind turbine.
